Project name: Big Step Ranch Overlook Garden
Category: Landscape
Client: Big Step Ranch
Area: 3.5 ac
Location: Chappell Hill, TX

A medium size ranch overlooking a portion of the lower New Years Creek watershed, had built a conventional home overlooking the creek about 80’ below the homesite. From the hilltop homesite, the vistas varied from about 5 to 12 miles in range. The desire was to create multiple venues with different views and levels of formality to suit the range of social functions anticipated.

The solution was to create a number of spaces that provided different select vistas and character for the Owner. There were spaces created for moon rises and sunsets as well as creekside viewing. The creek vista was framed by gabion walls creating a “portal” through which the changing aspects of the lower pastures and wildlife habitat could be viewed. An outdoor kitchen, fire ring moonrise area, croquet lawn and rose arbor overlook areas were created.
